Since late 1980 I've been taking photos of railways in my home country, Great Britain. Initially my visits across the country were to collect numbers and in the first few years you'll see plenty of photos taken at motive power depots and workshops. I then started to make trips out to cover the length and breadth of the country to cover the passenger rail system. In addition, I travelled on many enthusiast rail tours often run over freight only lines with unusual motive power.
The gallery has been organised basically in line with my original slide collection. You'll find collections given over to locomotives on each of the former British Rail regions as they were back in the 1980s. In addition, separate collections for EMUs, DMUs & HSTs, Rail tours and finally visits to the British Rail Engineering Ltd. works. To follow very shortly will be photos from Northern Ireland and other preserved plus light rail photos from across the country. Photos from all collections were scanned from 35mm Kodachrome 64 slides, so will not be up today's digital quality. However many of the pictures are now history so will hopefully make up for that.
In 1985 I made my first trip over to mainland Europe, the first of many and itís probably fair to say I did dessert this country to some extent as can be seen by a lack of photos taken since the early 1990s. For the European photos, please visit my other Fotopic gallery at http://europeanrail.fotopic.net
If you have any questions or spot any errors then please contact me. Finally enjoy what you see, if it bring back happy memories for you, then great. If it's now gone, then, well, sorry you never got to see it!
